MTB

Finale Ligure, a small town on the Ligurian Riviera between the sea and mountainous hinterland, has established itself since the early 2000s as one of the most respected mountain biking destinations in the world. The terrain combines technical trails inherited from centuries-old mule tracks with Mediterranean sea views, on a season that stretches well beyond what the Alpine massifs allow.

A network of historic trails

From Finale Ligure, the trail network climbs into the hinterland along old mule tracks that once linked the region’s hilltop villages. Expect around 30 km and 900 m of cumulative climbing for a typical ride, on terrain that alternates technical loose-rock sections, exposed ridgeline stretches and smoother riding through Mediterranean woodland.

The town regularly hosts enduro World Cup rounds, a sign of just how dense and high-quality the trail network is within a small radius of the historic centre of Finalborgo.

Getting the ride right

A full-face helmet and pads are worth having on the more committing trails, since the limestone terrain can turn slick and the rocky sections demand genuine technical skill. Numerous local guides and rental shops offer routes matched to different levels, a good entry point into the network without getting lost.

When to go

March to November, the Ligurian Riviera’s Mediterranean climate keeping most of the year rideable, unlike the neighbouring Alpine massifs closed by snow in winter. Summer can get hot on the less shaded sections.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Finale Ligure a world reference for mountain biking?+

Thanks to a network of several hundred kilometres of trails, many inherited from medieval mule tracks linking hilltop villages, on terrain that combines a Mediterranean feel with genuine technical demands. The town regularly hosts enduro World Cup rounds, which built its international reputation from the 2000s onward.

Does the terrain suit MTB beginners?+

Not really. While some smoother routes exist, Finale Ligure's reputation comes from its technical trails — loose rock, roots, exposed sections inherited from the historic mule tracks. Better to already have solid MTB experience before taking it on.
