MTB

Verbier, in Valais, is best known as a ski resort, but its 4 Vallées area has become a genuine summer MTB destination, with trails served by gondola from the village up to the high alpine pastures.

An alpine resort served by gondola

From Verbier, the Médran gondola gives access to a network of trails descending toward the valley from the high alpine pastures of the 4 Vallées area. Expect around 18 km of cumulative descending on a typical day, with 250 m of residual climbing, most of the elevation being handled by the lift. The terrain alternates more rolling trails in the lower section with more technical alpine singletrack toward Le Châble and Nendaz.

Getting the ride right

The resort grades its trails by level, making it easy to build a progressive day starting on the more accessible trails before venturing onto the more committing tracks in the alpine zones. The altitude and wind exposure in the resort’s upper section can catch riders off guard as the day goes on, even in high summer.

When to go

June to September, the season the lifts dedicated to mountain biking are open. July and August offer the best weather conditions, with alpine pastures in full bloom in the lower part of the resort.

Good to know

Verbier offers a wide choice of accommodation year-round, with convenient access to Nendaz and the rest of the 4 Vallées area for an MTB stay that extends beyond a single resort.
