The Small Carpathian Wine Route, around Modra and Pezinok, offers an accessible bike ride on Bratislava’s doorstep, between rolling vineyards and villages known for their traditional crafts.
A wine loop on the capital’s doorstep
From Modra, known for its hand-painted ceramics tradition, the road winds through the vineyards toward Pezinok and then Svätý Jur, at the foot of the wooded Small Carpathian foothills. Expect around 25 km and 250 m of elevation gain for a loop representative of the region, on a moderately rolling profile that crosses several wine villages.
Getting the ride right
No specific gearing is needed for this ride, with a generally gentle profile. The many wineries scattered along the route offer regular opportunities for a tasting break.
When to go
April to June and September to October, with the September harvest bringing a special atmosphere as wine-making activity is visible from the road. Summer remains rideable but hotter for an extended ride.

Modra and Pezinok offer a decent choice of accommodation, with convenient access to Bratislava, less than an hour away by road, for combining the ride with a visit to the Slovak capital.
